VF-3 flew F-4F Wildcats from the carriers Saratoga, Lexington, and Yorktown in historic battles at Wake, Bougainville, the Battle of the Coral Sea, and Midway. It became one of the Navy's most famous squadrons and its patches symbols of courage, honor, and bravery.
