The 33rd Tactical Fighter Squadron has a rich history dating back to its establishment during World War II. The squadron was activated on January 15, 1941, at Kelly Field, Texas, as the 33rd Pursuit Squadron. It was initially equipped with Seversky P-35 fighters and later transitioned to Curtiss P-40 Warhawks. During World War II, the squadron served in the Pacific Theater and participated in combat operations in New Guinea, the Northern Solomon Islands, and the Philippines.
